I was hoping to get some community input on an issue I’m facing. I currently own a Neat desktop scanner, and on the scanner box it specifically states several things, including:
– that the scanner supports duplex scanning (mentioned more than once)
AND
– “TWAIN and WIA support for scanning into other imaging applications”However, no matter what I try, I am unable to get the scanner to scan duplex via TWAIN on any 3rd party imaging application. The company has gone through several phases (based on how high I’ve escalated the matter), from “it is as-is and we’re not doing anything” to “we’ll look into it to see if we can perhaps help” and is now currently in the “ignoring and hoping I’ll just go away” phase. However, considering that these units are several hundred dollars, I want to get my money’s worth, and quite honestly their software is terrible (but is apparently, according to them, the only software that I can use to get duplex scanning).
At this point, I’m concerned that my only recourse might be to actually file a lawsuit against them. However, considering the language above, I’m wondering whether people think that the fact that the scanner is a duplex scanner and that the scanner is supposed to support TWAIN means that it should support duplex scanning via TWAIN. While it isn’t specifically stated that way, it does state it supports TWAIN and I can’t imagine why you’d implement TWAIN support and then kill it’s ability to utilize the product fully. I feel like that’s akin to a car manufacturer telling you that your car supports other tires besides those it came with, but unless you use a certain kind, any other tires won’t allow your car to drive backwards (or something similar).
So, what does everyone think? Does the fact that it supports TWAIN and is a duplex scanner mean that TWAIN should support duplex, or does the fact that they didn’t specifically spell out that TWAIN supports duplex let them off the hook?
Thanks!
Just a quick FYI follow-up – I have a query in to the TWAIN working group to get clarification on whether “TWAIN support”, according to them, should mean that it supports duplex if the scanner is capable of that, or whether it is left up to the manufacturer and must be spelled out specifically – not sure if they will respond or not, but I’m just trying to cover my bases…
